Heat Weldable Seals for Dry Suits (Patent received) We have developed a heat weldable seal to aid in the manufacture of dry suits and reduce or totally remove the need for adhesive. The seal has at the suit end a coating of PU. This enables heat sealing tapes to be adhered to the seal and suit directly without the need for extra gluing. It also has the additional benefit of allowing the seals to be sewn and taped to the suit without adhesive. The seals may be sewn through the coating to the fabric. The sew holes and seal edges can then be covered by a heat seal tape. (See diagram right) The best type of tape is PU based tape which works on a heat welding machine. We recommend that customers try to experiment with different temperatures. Our customers have told us that high temperatures are necessary when taping to the seals. It is best to use a fabric backed tape like the T2000 so that higher temperatures can be achieved. T2000 tapes are available at customers request. |
